H. Anthony Arrell
|
|
Tony Arrell started his career in 1969 as an investment analyst at Pitfield,
Mackay, Ross.
In 1977, Tony joined Gardiner Watson Limited where he helped to develop the
research department’s highly regarded philosophy of value-oriented research.
From the start he worked closely on investments with George Gardiner, the
firm’s Chairman and a highly regarded businessman and investor. In 1979,
Tony was appointed President and CEO of Gardiner Watson.
Tony subsequently joined Wood Gundy as Director of Research, later becoming Head
of Wood Gundy’s equity division. For three years he managed Wood Gundy’s U.S.
operations as President and CEO, headquartered in New York. In 1988, following
the sale of Wood Gundy to CIBC, Tony became Chairman and CEO of Walwyn Inc., which
two years later acquired Midland Doherty to form Midland Walwyn Inc.; Midland was
subsequently acquired by Merrill Lynch.
In late 1992, Tony acquired control and became Chairman of Burgundy Asset Management
Ltd., assuming responsibility for the firm’s overall direction. In addition to his
duties as Chairman and CEO, Tony is also a Portfolio Manager and conducts research
on individual companies.
Tony is a past Director of a number of public and private companies including
Commonwealth Holiday Inns, Charterways, GSW, Fairfax Financial, Scott’s Restaurants,
Versacold Canada, Canadian Marconi, Wood Gundy and Woodward’s Stores. He is also
a former Director of both the Toronto Stock Exchange and the Investment Dealers
Association.
Currently, Tony is a Director of Gardiner Group Capital and Garbell Holdings. He
also assisted in the formation of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance and
is a former Director of that organization. Tony is a member of the New York Society
of Security Analysts and the Toronto CFA Society.
Tony was Chairman of the Board of The Bishop Strachan School from 1997 to 2001.
Currently he is a Trustee of the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph.
Tony is a member of the Board of St. Michael’s Hospital, and is Chair of the St.
Michael’s Foundation Board and the St. Michael’s Hospital Pension Committee.
Tony has been active for many years with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The
Canadian Opera Company.
In 1998, Tony received the York University Award for Outstanding Executive Leadership,
and in 2003 he was awarded the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service by The
University of Guelph. In 2006, Tony received an Award of Merit from the St. George’s
Society of Toronto for his work in philanthropy, and in 2008 he received an Honorary
Doctorate of Laws from York University.
Tony has a working knowledge of business and investments in Latin America, including
Mexico, and is proficient in Spanish.
Tony has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph and an MBA from
York University.

Richard E. Rooney, CA, CFA
|
|
Richard began his career at Price Waterhouse in 1981 and qualified as a Chartered
Accountant in 1984.
He then joined Sun Life as an Investment Analyst specializing in Canadian equities.
Following a period as Portfolio Manager for Canadian equities, he was given
responsibility for all non-Canadian equity investments at Sun Life’s investment
counseling subsidiary, Sunimco.
Richard joined AMI Partners in 1989, where he had extensive responsibilities for
Canadian equity research.
He joined Burgundy in February 1995, and was appointed President and Chief Investment
Officer in September 1997. In addition to these duties, Richard is responsible for
EAFE and Global equity mandates at Burgundy.
Richard is a Director of Empire Life Insurance and Dominion of Canada General Insurance.
He is a Vice Chair of the Stratford Festival of Canada, a Trustee of The Art Gallery
of Ontario Foundation, and a Governor of The Dominion Institute.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1977 and his
MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in
1981. Richard obtained his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1987.

Allan MacDonald
|
|
Before joining Burgundy, Allan was the Senior Analyst for Value Search Investment
Services Ltd., where he was responsible for analyzing publicly traded Canadian
companies. Prior to that, he was with Scotia McLeod.
As an entrepreneur, Allan was President and Founder of a software development
and marketing company, and was President of a private training institute, where
his emphasis was on financial management and marketing.
Allan joined Burgundy in 1995 and has been instrumental in the development of
Burgundy’s small cap investments in North America. Allan is currently the Portfolio
Manager for U.S. Small Cap, U.S. Small/Mid Cap and Canadian Small Cap equities.
He was appointed a Vice President of the firm in September 1997 and a Senior Vice
President and Director in June 2001.
Allan completed the Canadian Securities Course in 1991 and received Canada’s
“Top 40/Under 40” award in 1998.

Stephen G. Mitchell, CFA
|
|
Stephen began his investment career in 1988 with CIBC, where he held various
management positions in the Investment Operations department, including Manager
Global Operations. He joined Burgundy in 1993 as an Investment Analyst focusing
on U.S. and European equities.
Stephen was appointed a Senior Vice President of Burgundy in June 2001 and currently
is Portfolio Manager for U.S. Large Cap mandates.
Stephen has an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western
Ontario and completed graduate work in Latin American Studies at the University
of Toronto. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1993.
Stephen is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

Craig Pho, CFA
|
|
Craig received his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1992 and spent the
following two years in Japan. He then returned to Canada, and acquired an
International MBA in Finance from York University in 1997. As part of his MBA
program, Craig returned to Japan on an exchange program, attending the International
University of Japan and later worked for the investment management subsidiary of
Nomura Securities in Tokyo.
Craig joined Burgundy in March of 1998 as a research analyst specializing in Japan,
and was appointed Portfolio Manager for our Japanese equities in 2001. He was
appointed a Vice President of Burgundy in July 2000 and a Senior Vice President
in July 2004.
Craig has been a Director of the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation since 2003.
He has also been a Director of the National Ballet School Foundation since 2004 and
Vice President of the Foundation since 2006. He has been studying Japan’s unique
business culture since 1993 and continues to study the language.
Craig was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2002 and is a
member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

David P. Vanderwood, CFA
|
|
David has over 15 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior
to Burgundy he was with Odlum Brown Ltd. where he researched both Canadian
and U.S. equities. While studying at the University of British Columbia,
he worked as a Research Associate and Fund Manager for the UBC Portfolio
Management Foundation. David was previously a member of the Foundation’s
operating committee.
David joined Burgundy in January 2001 as an Investment Analyst to focus
on Canadian equities. He was appointed a Vice President of the firm in
June 2001 and a Senior Vice President in June 2003. David is currently
Portfolio Manager for our Canadian equities, and co-manages Burgundy’s
Global Focused equities.
David earned his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours Finance) degree from the
University of British Columbia and was awarded the Chartered Financial
Analyst designation in 1996. He is a member of the CFA Institute.

Kenneth A. Broekaert, CFA
|
|
Ken joined Burgundy in April 2003 as an Investment Analyst focusing on Europe. In
June 2006, he was appointed a Vice President of the firm and Portfolio Manager for
our European equities.
Prior to Burgundy, Ken spent over four years at The Boston Consulting Group, a leading
global strategy consulting firm. He worked closely with senior management of blue
chip companies across many industries, developing and implementing business strategies
to enhance competitive advantage and drive profitable growth.
Ken graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business where he earned an Honours
Business Administration degree in 1998, with distinction as an Ivey Scholar, and his
MBA in 2003 where he earned a place on the Dean’s Honours List.
Ken was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2005 and is a member
of the CFA Institute.

Michael Hatcher, CFA
|
|
Michael joined Burgundy in March 2004 as a Senior Investment Analyst focusing
on Canadian equities. In December 2005, he joined the European team to focus
on European equity research. In June 2007, Michael was appointed Vice President
of the firm.
Before joining Burgundy, Michael was a Portfolio Manager on the Canadian Value
Equity Team at MFC Global Investment Management, a subsidiary of Manulife Financial.
At MFC, Michael was co-manager of the E&P Dividend Fund and lead manager of MFC’s
global balanced fund portfolios. Michael was also a member of MFC’s global asset
allocation committee with the responsibility of providing the Canadian perspective.
Prior to joining MFC, Michael was an economist with the Federal Government and the
private sector.
Michael has a Master of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto, a
Master of Science from the London School of Economics and both an Honours BA in
Economics and a BA in Statistics from Carleton University. He was awarded the
Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2002 and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Vincent E. Hunt, CFA
|
|
Vincent began his investment career in 1989 at Mackenzie Financial, and later
joined Global Strategy Financial in 1993. In 1995, Vincent joined Elliott and
Page Limited as a Senior Trust Accountant. He subsequently became a Fixed Income
Analyst, and was appointed Fixed Income Portfolio Manager in 2000. In 2001,
Vincent joined AIM Trimark Investments as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager,
managing over $6 billion of fixed income assets across ten different funds.
Vincent joined Burgundy in October 2004 as Vice President to manage Burgundy’s
fixed income.
Vincent received his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University
in 1988. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2000.
He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

Ken Jesudian, CFA
|
|
Ken began his investment career in 1998 at Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.,
and subsequently spent five years at Foyston, Gordon and Payne, Inc., where
he was Director of Research and Portfolio Manager for mid cap Canadian equities.
Ken joined Burgundy in June 2005 as Vice President and Manager of Research, and
was promoted to Director of Research in July 2006. In addition to these duties,
Ken is a Senior Investment Analyst focusing on U.S. small and mid cap equities.
Ken received his Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Brock
University in 1998 and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation
in 2004.
He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

Darren P. McKiernan, CFA
|
|
Darren began his investment career in 1995 as a Canadian equities analyst
with Scotia Investment Management Ltd. He subsequently joined AIM Trimark
Investments in 1997 as their Senior Global Equity Analyst, primarily covering
the Trimark Fund, one of Canada's best-performing value based mutual funds;
he was responsible for large and mid cap stocks in the United States, Europe,
Asia Pacific and Latin America. Prior to joining Burgundy, Darren’s most
recent position was as Senior Analyst at one of Canada’s largest hedge fund
managers, where he specialized in North American equities. As an entrepreneur,
Darren also successfully helped fund, manage, and grow Arackal, a professional
services firm focused on offshore software development and business process
outsourcing.
Darren joined Burgundy in May 2003 as an Investment Analyst focusing on U.S.
equities. He was appointed a Vice President of the firm in July 2004.
Darren received his Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University
of Manitoba in 1995, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation
in 1998.
He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

Anne-Mette joined Burgundy in June 2008 as Vice President and Portfolio Manager
to focus on the firm’s Emerging Markets effort.
Anne-Mette began her career in 1992 as a Senior Associate with Braxton Associates,
Deloitte and Touche in London, England and in Canada. In 1995, she joined Monitor
Company Canada Limited, where she was a Project Leader and advised on corporate
and competitive strategy, including acquisitions, in a wide range of industries
in Europe and North America.
Most recently, Anne-Mette worked with AIC Investment Services Inc. She joined
AIC in 2000 as an Analyst and later became Senior Vice-President and Portfolio
Manager overseeing international equities and managing $200 million in global
funds. Anne-Mette also restructured AIC’s international franchise to reflect
a value-oriented investment style.
She received her Bachelor of Science (1989) and Masters of Science (1992) in
Economics from the University of Copenhagen, and spent time at the London School
of Economics.
Anne-Mette currently sits on the Rotman Advancement Board, on the Impact Consulting
Group Advisory Board and is a Board Member of the National Ballet School Foundation.
In 2006, she received the Arbor Award from the University of Toronto for outstanding
volunteer service.

Mark Tan, CFA
|
|
Mark joined Burgundy in July 2007 as a Senior Investment Analyst, focusing
on global equities.
Before joining Burgundy, Mark was an analyst at Southeastern Asset Management
in Tokyo. Prior to that, he held various institutional sales positions focusing
on Japanese equities with JP Morgan Chase & Co. in Tokyo and New York, and with
Nikko Salomon Smith Barney Limited in Toronto. Mark also held institutional
sales positions focusing on Japanese and Asian equities with Nomura in Toronto.
Mark has a MBA (Finance) from McGill University and a Bachelor of Science
(Applied Math) from York University. He was awarded the Chartered Financial
Analyst designation in 1993 and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Natsuko Douglas
|
|
Natsuko received her Bachelor of Home Economics (Food Science) degree from
the Nara Women’s University in 1996. Subsequently, she spent four years
at MEC Company Ltd. (Hyogo) and two years at Manpower Japan, where she
completed contract work for The Nomura Securities Co. Ltd (Tokyo) as an
Equity Research Assistant. Natsuko also gained industry experience as a
Credit Analyst for The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi (Toronto) in the summer of 2004.
Natsuko joined Burgundy in August 2005 as an Investment Analyst to focus
on Japanese equities.
Natsuko received her MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University
and is a Level III candidate in the CFA Program.
Natsuko is a Chartered Member of the Securities Analyst Association of Japan
(SAAJ) and a member of Women in Capital Markets.

Jeff Feng, CFA
|
|
Jeff received his Bachelor of Finance degree from Xiamen University (China)
in 1997. He subsequently spent four years at Sunrise Investment Co., where
he provided advice to corporations on financing, M&A and restructuring
transactions. Following this, Jeff spent two years at TransEast Investment
Counseling Co. where he worked as an Investment Analyst. In April 2005, Jeff
received his MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
Jeff joined Burgundy in August 2005 as an Investment Analyst to focus on larger
capitalization Japanese companies as well as non-Japanese Asian companies, as
part of Burgundy’s Global and EAFE equity efforts.
Jeff was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2006, and is
a member of the CFA Institute and Toronto CFA Society.

Mario Grech
|
|
Mario joined Burgundy as an Investment Analyst focusing on U.S. small and mid
cap equities in May 2005.
Mario received his Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Systems Design Engineering)
degree from the University of Waterloo in 2005, where he graduated on the Dean’s
Honours List. While pursuing his degree, he acquired two years of co-op work
experience at IBM and ATS Automation Tooling Systems.
Mario successfully completed the educational requirements of the CFA Program
in 2007.

Oméonga Saidi
|
|
Omé joined Burgundy in June 2007 as an Investment Analyst focusing
on European equities.
Omé earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University
of Toronto in 2007 and has also studied Electrical Engineering and Finance at
Penn State. He is currently a Level III candidate in the CFA Program.

Robert Sankey, CFA
|
|
Robert joined Burgundy in May 2005 to focus on performance measurement and
firm-wide compliance initiatives. He assumed the position of Investment
Analyst focusing on Fixed Income in February 2007, and in August 2008 transitioned
over to Canadian equities.
Prior to joining Burgundy, Robert spent four years with Russell/Mellon
Analytical Services, where he served as Manager of the Performance and Analytics
Group. Earlier in his career, Robert spent two years working as a Fund
Accountant with CIBC Mellon Global Securities Services.
Robert received a Bachelor of Science in 1997 from the University of British
Columbia, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2004.
Robert is a member of the CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society.

Doug Winslow, CFA

|
Doug joined Burgundy in December 2007 as an Investment Analyst focusing on U.S.
small and mid cap equities. Prior to joining Burgundy, Doug worked as an Investment
Analyst at Hamblin Watsa Investment Counsel and Southeastern Asset Management, and
as an Analyst in the M&A group at CIBC World Markets.
Doug received his MBA from Duke University and his Bachelor of Commerce degree from
the University of Saskatchewan. He was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst
designation in 2007. Doug is a member of the CFA Institute.

John Ewing

|
John joined Burgundy in May 2006 to focus on client servicing and firm-wide
compliance initiatives. In October 2007, he assumed his current position as
an Investment Analyst focusing on Canadian small cap equities.
John earned a Bachelor of Science degree (Engineering Systems and Computing)
from the University of Guelph in 2005. He successfully completed the
educational requirements of the CFA Program in 2008.

Eugene joined Burgundy in May 2008 as an Investment Analyst focusing on U.S.
large cap equities. Prior to joining Burgundy, Eugene worked at Blackmont
Capital, focusing on metals and mining corporate finance, and later assumed
the role of Investment Banking Associate at Haywood Securities.
Eugene graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business where he earned an
Honours Business Administration degree in 2005 and an MBA in 2008. He is
currently a Level III candidate in the CFA Program.

Charles joined Burgundy in September of 2008 as an Investment Analyst, focusing
on Canadian equities.
Before joining Burgundy, Charles spent four years at Foyston, Gordon & Payne Inc.

Prior to that, he was a Senior Analyst at Morningstar Research Ltd., and spent
